Both educationally disadvantaged adults and at-risk youth need
immediately useable vocational computer skills in the community to provide
them with requisite skills to obtain attractive legal means of
livelihood. In general, LEC's programs offer relief to the poor and distressed
persons in the community by enabling and empowering participants to qualify
for seek, secure and keep more lucrative jobs in society through training in
such computer skills.
Both Instructor-led and Computer Assisted Instruction
training is offered by LEC. LEC's computer
training program gives participants an opportunity to develop and/or sharpen basic
computer skills. The types of computer skills taught depend on each individual participant’s
computer background and future computer-related interests. But in general, Computer Training Program Participants will:

- Become familiar with computer and functions;
- Gain a basic understanding of the role of personal computers in business
and industry;
- Learn and/or improve keyboarding skills;
- Become familiar with and demonstrate effective use of peripheral devices such as printers, scanners, digital cameras, video capture
cards and modems;
- Apply a combination of software and hardware knowledge and skills to
effectively design and complete multimedia and office projects;
- Become familiar with and practice basic math and reading skills using
computer games and other educational software; and
- Gain confidence to pursue self-directed projects and continue to learn
and build on skills and concepts learned in the program.
The computer training program provides an integrated set of
learning experiences that offers an opportunity to at-risk youth and
disadvantaged adults to develop and sharpen their technical job-related
skills in a manner that empowers and enables them to opt for honest ways to
earn a living. As a result, LEC envisions that this program will not only help to reduce poverty and
homelessness, but also lower crime, juvenile delinquency and recidivism rates.
